Harvest time on the Isle Estate
13th September 2012
Wet, wet and more rain. Harvesting has been a chore but Guy has got on with the job as best he could (seen here in a field of wheet called ‘Spine Road Right One’).
Countrywide the yields have been about 12% down and we are no exception. One of the main problems has been the lack of UV light which has lead to a poor grain sample. All this being said prices have remained relatively buoyant and at least we have got our crop in, though with the adverse climatic conditions, bailing the straw will be a patchy operation and if it continues to rain then we may well have to plough when we could have used a direct drilling system for next year’s crop.
We have just had the real pleasure of a four night stay at this splendid home from home. I cannot praise Ros and Edward enough for their warm welcome and unending efforts to make our stay nothing but a pleasure. A lovely couple and, indeed, a lovely family. We were welcomed with tea and biscuits served in the lounge whilst Edward did his best to book us in. This in itself was a great event as he is an enthusiastic conversationalist and, as I too love a natter, the booking in went frequently astray!! Introductions were made to family...

What a great place! A little concentration required to follow the excellent instructions on how to find them, but after that just relax! A great place. We were in the Blue & White Room (gorgeous). Lovely to have such a big room, lots of space, and beautiful bathroom. Lovely breakfast (home made muesli). I don't eat wheat or dairy these days, and this was no problem for Ros. She very thoughtfully found me some special bread and spread, and made muesli with almond milk. We ate out Friday night in Shrewsbury www.henrytudorhouse.com (v...

This was the most wonderful place to bring a horse. We rode out each day for two hours on the estate without putting foot on a road. Wonderful canters on the banks of the Severn, on headlands and across grassland. If we'd wanted to, we could have jumped any number of cross country fences, used the indoor or outdoor arenas or had a lesson. The bedroom was perfect too, very comfortable and a flask of milk provided for our early morning tea. Breakfast delicious. Hosts Ros and Edward extremely helpful and very friendly, nothing too much t...

We have stayed here many times before and this is our third different room. This time a view over the river with the horses feeding and running happily around the fields, geese and guinea fowl wandering around freely. All rooms are fabulously decorated and in a charming comfortable way. All the beds are really really comfy too. Breakfast is the best and I compare this to other hotels of high quality - and this IS the best. Ros and Edward and family are warm welcoming hosts. Why stay anywhere else? We will be back again for sure.

Three generations of us booked most of the rooms at the Isle Estate as we were attending a family wedding nearby. Quite frankly, we would have been happy to stay at the house, with the delightful Ros and Edward, all weekend! In fact, we were really struggling to leave this beautiful spot and ended our visit with an amazing walk around the stunning river and lake. The owners of this beautiful farm are so welcoming and we really did feel 'at home'. The bedrooms were incredibly comfortable, with sumptuous beds and a lovely attention to d...
