Spring Planting on The Isle Estate
1st April 2013
Now at last we can say that the spring planting has started with some dry weather and even sight of the sun.
Pictured here we are working on one of the carrot beds down what we call the Spine Road. The large red piece of machinery (driven by Charlie) is used to de-stone the field and the other tractor (property of Callum) is preparing the seed beds and forming ridges to help dry out and break down the soil. All rather a slow and expensive process with the ridging operation using about 35 litres of diesel per hour .... heavy work for what is one of the most economic tractors on the market. If we'd wanted to, we could have jumped any number of cross country fences, used the indoor or outdoor arenas or had a lesson. The bedroom was perfect too, very comfortable and a flask of milk provided for our early morning tea. Breakfast delicious. Hosts Ros and Edward extremely helpful and very friendly, nothing too much t...

I came back again as it was such a relaxing interesting visit a few years ago. Great to be remembered and spend an pleasant evening chatting , listening to Edwards fascinating knowledge of local history. Ask to see the little box of historical artefacts they have. I stayed in the pink room again, overlooking the extensive grounds. The bed just softly supports you. The bath is huge and hot. Wifi is free and works in the room. I have noticed that this is not true in many older houses as the walls are so thick. Breakfast is lovely wit...
